A piece of design history with regard to bentwood is provided by the GO IN coffee house chair in Thonet style. Michael Thonet was the inventor of the original Thonet chair and to this day it is regarded as the very first piece of designer furniture worldwide. Already in 1819, Michael Thonet produced the chairs he had designed himself using a complete new way of processing bentwood. 40 years later, in 1859 he finally managed to break into the mass market, introducing Chair No. 14, which was later known as the so-called “Viennese coffee house chair”.
In the 19th century, the bentwood chair by Thonet paved the way for the company to become a global success. A wide range of other bentwood furniture was developed. Some of the pieces also became world famous, such as the Thonet rocking chair No. 1 from 1860 or the elegant Art Nouveau easy chair 247 by Otto Wagner, which was launched in 1904. GO IN too appreciates bentwood furniture in Thonet style and has therefore been cooperating with Thonet Group in Eastern Europe since 1995. The GRAND BISTRO Collection presents the classic furniture for cafés and bistros in many varieties and colours. The chairs can be ordered with or without seat pads resp. with or without armrests, where by the customer can choose between nature, cherry, mahogany, walnut, black, merano or pastel shades such as beige, yellow, rosé, green, blue or grey. Matching bentwood barstools and hatstands in the same style and colours are also included in the GRAND BISTRO Collection.

GO IN’s modular system offers the matching tables to the bentwood chairs. Here, a wide range of table frames can be combined with a large variety of table tops and materials. GO IN recommends matching bentwood easy chairs and chairs with a three or four-prong table frame from black painted cast iron material with a table top from resin bonded marble. This combination reflects in an ideal way the character of a bistro or café. An alternative option would be the table tops from Werzalit ®, laminate or granite.
